meet the instructor!
Hi, I am melissa.
I was taught how to crochet by my grandmother and aunt, both of whom were masters in this craft! I started out as a knitting tech editor, but quickly branched out into crochet patterns when I saw the need in the fiber community. Within six months, I had a thriving business that now pays for all of my yarn, tools, and fun trips to fiber events! I’ve tech edited crochet patterns for a wide range of clients - from brand new designers to third party publishers.
Why am I teaching this class?
I love to work with beginners, whether it is teaching someone how to crochet, designing, editing, or grading! I want to help you become the best crochet tech editor and have a growing business with all of its benefits! Plus, I’ll be honest here, I’m swamped with work! We need more great people to do this work and build this kind of career.
What people are saying
“I love the course. It is very well done.” — Sandra Best
“My main goal for taking this course is to make extra income, and the price was the best around. The self-pacing was vital to me, as was Melissa’s easy availability to answer all questions. I have found everything super clear, thank you!” —Kikelomo Amusa-Shonubi
“I wanted to learn as much as I can about tech editing so I can create adaptive crochet garments that individuals in wheelchairs can wear. I had checked other options and this course uses an actual PDF pattern to learn. Other programs didn’t offer the extent of knowledge that you have offered. Melissa is so genuine, and I love how she has set up the lessons!” — Sue Morgan
“I want to learn all I can as I embark on a tech editing career, and Melissa appeared to have a good resume, knowledge, and experience. The course was worth the cost. Having only one crochet pattern to work on throughout the course gave great continuity between modules—I learned a lot from working on one real pattern. I also liked that I could go through the course material as many times as needed to grasp the modules.” — Rho
“Melissa knows what she’s talking about. I love how approachable and professional she is.” —Germander Cottage Crafts
“Melissa is professional, a wealth of knowledge and a total godsend. It’s so nice to have someone on my team who has my back when it comes to precision. You are amazing!” — Namaste & Crochet
FAQ:
When does the course start and how long does it last?
The course starts as soon as you sign up! Once you are enrolled, you will receive weekly emails from The Tech Editor Hub when each module becomes available for a total of 7 weeks. We have found that our students do best when they get a focused portion of instruction every week instead of the entire curriculum all at once.
You can work through the material as it becomes available or at your own pace. You will have access to any updates if we add material in the future.
What if I don’t have any (or much) knowledge about editing?
This course will teach you how! It takes you step-by-step through a pattern by explaining the process of editing, showing the process of editing, and then you do the actual editing on the practice pattern. It will fill in any gaps you have in your editing knowledge while reinforcing the existing experience or skills you do have. If you don’t have experience working on a computer with documents and spreadsheets, this course may be too advanced for you.
Why is this course so pricy?
The information I am teaching is valuable, and you don’t have to try to find it online elsewhere. Everything you need to know to get started is included. Keep in mind that working an average of 4-6 editing jobs will pay for this course. And you can absolutely write the cost of the course off as a business expense, too!
But are crochet designers really willing to pay to have their patterns edited?
I personally made over $1000 my first year of editing, working part time. The problem may not be that ALL clients aren't willing to pay to have their patterns edited. The designers that want to take shortcuts and skip editing are not your market. Clients that are willing to pay for editing are out there!
Does this really work? Can you really become a successful crochet tech editor?
While we can’t promise anyone financial success, there is plenty of room in this market for more crochet tech editors. If you show up, work hard, be consistent, you’ll probably find yourself wishing for more colleagues, too!
What if I don’t like the course?
We want you to be completely satisfied. You can ask for a 100% full refund any time during the first two weeks after your purchase, no questions asked.
How long will I have access to the course?
You will be able to access the material for at least a year. Because of how technology evolves and changes, we can’t promise lifetime access, but we’ll keep the material up on our site as long as possible.
